Phase I of Bangladesh National Seismic Network Project was implemented in 2007. Beijing Geolight Corporation constructed an observation network consisting of four broadband stations and organized training for Bangladeshi experts in Beijing. During the training, the Embassy of Bangladesh in China attached great importance to this cooperation project. Brigadier General Ahmad Imrul Kayes, Defense Attaché, and Mr. Fiaz Kazi, Second Secretary, met with the nine Bangladeshi experts and Chinese representatives participating in the training.
During the training program in Beijing, the nine Bangladeshi experts conducted acceptance inspection of all instruments supplied by Beijing Geolight Corporation for the Bangladesh National Digital Seismic Network Project. Xue Bing, Director of the Seismic Observation Technology Center of the Institute of Earthquake Prediction and General Manager of Beijing Geolight Corporation, attended the acceptance ceremony.
Beijing Geolight Corporation arranged eight highly competent, experienced and proficient foreign-language-speaking specialists to deliver lectures to the Bangladeshi experts. The nine experts from Bangladesh received professional technical training covering seismometers, accelerometers, seismic data acquisition servers, seismic data processing software, instrument calibration, system integration and other relevant fields.
After three weeks of training, the Bangladeshi experts basically mastered the installation, operation and routine maintenance of the seismic observation instruments and software provided by Beijing Geolight Corporation, fulfilling the expected training objectives. The Bangladeshi experts expressed satisfaction with the training. A formal graduation ceremony was held upon completion of the training, and training completion certificates were awarded to each Bangladeshi participant.
Phase II of Bangladesh National Seismic Network Project was carried out in 2016. Beijing Geolight Corporation built another six broadband seismic stations. Together with the existing stations, a national network with ten broadband seismic stations was established, greatly enhancing the overall observation capacity. The station distribution and observation capacity of the completed network are shown in the figure below:
