The Digital Telemetry Seismic Network for Hydropower Projects in Wujiang River Basin is China’s first digital telemetry seismic network planned on an entire river basin scale, with the primary objective of monitoring induced earthquakes at multiple reservoirs. Once completed, the network will not only directly support the safety of hydropower projects in the Wujiang River Basin and ensure full realization of project benefits, but also serve as a demonstration for the development of cascade hydropower projects in river basins across China and worldwide. Our company undertook site reconnaissance, design, construction, operation and management of the project. Its successful implementation stands as an exemplary case of the Chinese government and enterprises jointly practicing the Scientific Outlook on Development.
From August 2002 to December 2002, Beijing Geolight Corporation carried out site reconnaissance for the seismic monitoring network in the Wujiang River Basin. In January 2003, the technical design of the Digital Telemetry Seismic Network for Hydropower Projects in Wujiang River Basin was finalized. On March 25, 2003, Wujiang Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. commissioned the China Earthquake Administration to organize an expert evaluation committee led by Academician Xu Shaoxie and Academician Chen Houqun to review the Technical Design Document of the Digital Telemetry Seismic Network for Hydropower Projects in Wujiang River Basin. The committee concluded that the document embodied the principle of “comprehensive planning and elaborate design”, featured advanced and feasible technical specifications as well as reasonable instrument selection, representing the state-of-the-art level in contemporary seismic observation.
On July 1, 2003, Wujiang Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. signed the construction contract for Phase I of the Digital Telemetry Seismic Network for Hydropower Projects in Wujiang River Basin with Beijing Geolight Corporation.
