The operating speed of high-speed trains is substantially higher than that of conventional trains, and there exist fundamental differences between them in terms of train performance as well as interactions with the surrounding environment. The occurrence of any hazard may lead to severe accidents. Minor incidents include train derailment and service suspension, while serious cases can result in fatalities, complete vehicle destruction and devastating damage to tracks and bridges.
Countries with well-developed high-speed railways such as Japan, France and Germany, together with Spain, South Korea and Chinese Taiwan that adopted imported technologies for high-speed rail, have deployed advanced disaster prevention technologies to achieve effective hazard mitigation.
Disaster prevention should also be taken into consideration for China’s high-speed railways. Preliminary studies carried out by relevant institutions under the former Ministry of Railways identified monitored hazards requiring protection and alarming services, including natural disasters (wind, rain, snow, flood and earthquake), rail temperature, fire and sudden incidents. Such measures aim to minimize losses caused by hazards to high-speed trains.
Our company offers an observation configuration consisting of the BBAS-2 accelerometer and EDAS-24GN seismic data acquisition unit for seismic early warning systems. In recent years, we have launched multiple low-latency force-balanced integrated strong-motion instruments and systems, including GL-P2A and GL-PA4. We have also developed MEMS-based strong-motion instruments such as GL-P2B and GL-P2C, as well as the four-component intensity early warning instrument GL-GN4. These products provide diversified options for users with different observation configurations and monitoring objectives.
