On July 2, 2019, Teacher Han Zhiming from the Teaching and Research Section of Measurement and Control Technology, Institute of Disaster Prevention, led 25 students from the 2018 Seismic Instrument Collaborative Experimental Class to conduct a one-day cognitive internship at Beijing Geolight Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Geolight Company). The internship aimed to help students deepen their understanding of seismic instruments, comprehensively learn the whole process of seismic instrument research and development, from design to production, and promote the steady development of school-enterprise industry-university-research cooperation projects. The entire visit and internship activity was undertaken by the Company’s Marketing Service Department.
Dr. Zhang Suling introduced the company’s development history and corporate culture
At 9 a.m., a symposium was held in the conference room on the third floor of the company. Dr. Zhang Suling briefly introduced Geolight Company’s development course, corporate culture, product innovation achievements and engineering application scenarios. He pointed out that the Institute of Disaster Prevention and Geolight Company share the same origin, consistent development goals and broad cooperation prospects, and both sides devote themselves to contributing wisdom and strength to China’s earthquake prevention and disaster reduction cause.
Department heads and technical staff introduced department functions and R&D instruments
Subsequently, teachers and students visited the Seismometer Department, Data Acquisition Department, Exploration Department, Technology Department, Vibration Testing Laboratory and other functional departments and laboratories of the company in sequence. The relevant person-in-charges and technical professionals introduced the core functions of each department and the performance characteristics of self-developed instruments. Teachers and students actively communicated with technical staff and consulted on professional questions during the visit.
Teachers and students summarized the internship activity
At 1 p.m., all participating students attended a summary symposium in the conference room. Teacher Han Zhiming summarized the whole internship process, highly affirmed the company’s advanced instrument and equipment as well as excellent scientific research environment, and expressed sincere gratitude to Geolight Company for receiving and arranging the internship activity. Afterwards, each student shared their internship insights, learning gains and prospects for future academic study and career development in turn.
Finally, Dr. Zhang Suling delivered a message to the students, encouraging them to cherish their youth, diligently learn professional knowledge, and looking forward to meeting everyone again in the follow-up internship activities next year.
