2026 marks a new starting point for the University of Emergency Management, the inaugural year for implementing the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping. Recently, the 2026 University-Enterprise Collaborative Education Summer Training Program jointly launched by Beijing Geolight Technology Co., Ltd. and the School of Emergency Communications and Control Engineering of the University of Emergency Management successfully concluded. This constitutes an important practice for both parties to further integrate industry and education and advance collaborative talent cultivation. Running from August 31 to September 4 for one week, the training program targeted 34 undergraduates majoring in Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation. Adopting the model of enterprise tutors delivering on-campus lectures + student field practice at the enterprise, more than ten senior engineers from Geolight undertook teaching tasks. The curriculum covered cutting-edge industry trends, professional theories, hands-on operation and other dimensions.

At the training opening ceremony, company representatives introduced the enterprise profile and core products to help students build an understanding of the industry. Drawing on frontline practical experience, enterprise engineers delivered theoretical lectures on the UVW broadband seismometer and seismic data acquisition unit to consolidate students’ professional foundations. Focusing on cutting-edge industry developments and drawing on Belt and Road overseas projects and local mega-disaster prevention engineering cases, the lectures explained the full workflow of seismic site selection and seismic network construction. Hands-on training including seismometer calibration and station noise calculation was carried out to realize deep integration between theories and engineering practice.

The training featured dedicated practical modules. Under the guidance of Geolight engineers, students worked in groups to assemble and debug short-period seismometers. Through instrument disassembly, assembly and parameter configuration, they deepened their understanding of the structure and mechanism of seismic instruments and honed their engineering practical capabilities. A series of special lectures on frontier technologies were also arranged, covering deep borehole integrated observation system integration, emergency disposal of seismic warning release systems and terminal measurement & control, helping students keep abreast of cutting-edge industry progress and broaden their academic horizons.

In the later phase of the training, participating students visited Geolight for on-site study. They toured production workshops for seismometers, data acquisition units and exploration instruments to learn the full instrument manufacturing workflow, attended technical briefings, and completed hands-on installation of GL-series accelerometers. This training program represents a key achievement of the university-enterprise collaborative education between Geolight and the University of Emergency Management. Based on the on-campus lectures + enterprise practice model, it helps students connect theoretical knowledge with engineering realities, expand horizons, improve practical skills and foster a strong sense of mission for disaster prevention and mitigation. Both sides will continue to deepen cooperation and innovate talent training models to cultivate high-quality professionals for disaster prevention and mitigation.
