On July 24, the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing. Zheng Guoguang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Management, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of CEA, and Gu Jun, General Manager of CNNC, held talks and signed the agreement. Wang Kun, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of CEA; Li Qingtang and Shen Yanfeng, Deputy General Managers of CNNC, together with persons-in-charge of internal departments and relevant affiliated institutions of both sides witnessed the signing ceremony.
Zheng Guoguang stated that further deepening strategic cooperation between CEA and CNNC is a concrete action to thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on disaster prevention, mitigation and relief, work safety and nuclear security development. It also embodies the people-centered development philosophy and the guiding principle of "Two Persistences and Three Shifts" for disaster prevention, mitigation and relief. The two sides enjoy a solid foundation for cooperation. As the main force for national nuclear energy development and nuclear power construction, CNNC has made important contributions to national economic and social development. By taking proactive steps to engage and provide services, CEA will intensify practical cooperation in areas including seismic safety risk assessment of nuclear facilities and earthquake early warning. This will further enhance the core competitiveness of China’s nuclear industry and its capacity to withstand seismic risks, offering solid support for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and realizing the Two Centenary Goals.
General Manager Gu Jun expressed gratitude to CEA for its long-standing support in site selection and seismic design for nuclear facilities. He hoped that both parties would further deepen cooperation, expand cooperation areas and elevate cooperation in breadth and depth. Following the signing of the agreement, counterpart departments will strengthen communication and earnestly deliver on commitments. The two sides will work hand in hand to support high-quality development of the nuclear power sector and national economic and social progress.
After the signing ceremony, Zheng Guoguang delivered a report entitled "Issues concerning the development of China’s emergency management undertaking" to middle and senior managers of CNNC at the CNNC Lecture Hall.
