As the Belt and Road Initiative continues to advance in‑depth, Geolight Technology (Beijing Geolight Technology Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as “Geolight Technology”) has achieved remarkable progress. Led by Project Commander Zhou Yinxing and Technical Lead Wu Weiyuan, the professional team of Geolight Technology has successfully completed the overseas site project in Armenia under the Belt‑and‑Road Seismic Monitoring Network Project, marking new fruitful outcomes for China‑partner‑country cooperation in seismic monitoring, earthquake prevention and disaster mitigation across the Belt and Road regions.

I. Built on Technology, Forged with Dedication: Building the “Smart Veins” for Seismic Monitoring
The customized seismic monitoring system delivered by Geolight Technology for Armenia comprises five seismic stations and one data center. Faced with Armenia’s complex terrain where mountain‑plateau areas account for over 90 % of its territory, as well as extreme climates featuring bitter cold down to ‑30 °C in winter and scorching heat up to 40 °C in summer, project team members trekked with dozens‑kilogram equipment components through uninhabited zones above 2000 meters altitude, opening‑up infrastructure access for station construction amid steep cliffs.

“As we strived to identify monitoring locations balancing scientific value and construction feasibility amid complex landforms, our team trekked deep into the hinterland of the Caucasus Mountains carrying equipment parts. We kept in touch via satellite phones and survived on portable rations. After 15 consecutive days of site surveys, we finally selected five key station sites across the remote high‑altitude plateau,” recalled Zhou Yinxing, Project Commander of Geolight Technology.

Specialized seismic instruments deployed at the stations, including broadband seismometers and high‑precision data acquisition units, have passed rigorous environmental qualification tests. Capable of stable operation under temperature swings from ‑40 °C to 70 °C, the equipment accurately captures seismic signals and enables steady real‑time data transmission. Under the leadership of Wu Weiyuan, Technical Lead, the team overcame mountain‑area communication challenges and adopted a hybrid networking solution to achieve zero‑latency data backhaul from remote stations. This lays a solid foundation for subsequent rapid earthquake early warning, greatly improving Armenia’s monitoring accuracy and timeliness for seismic activities, and furnishing reliable data support for earthquake early warning, disaster assessment and scientific research.

Meanwhile, throughout project implementation, Geolight Technology delivered training for technical staff from the Institute of Geophysics and Engineering Seismology named after A. Nazarov by adopting a “theoretical lectures plus hands‑on practice” training model. Through more than 300 hours of immersive training, the first batch of local backbones proficient in advanced monitoring technologies have been cultivated, realizing the transition from “technology export” to “capacity export”.

II. Recognition at High‑level Meetings: Bilateral High‑level Appraisal of S&T Cooperation Achievements
The project’s outcomes have drawn high‑level attention from Armenia. Recently, the President of the Republic of Armenia received the delegation headed by Wang Kun, Administrator of the China Earthquake Administration, and highly commended bilateral cooperation achievements in seismology, with Geolight Technology’s contributions widely acknowledged. During the meeting, the President of Armenia and Administrator Wang Kun jointly inspected and accepted the data center constructed by Geolight Technology. Locally‑trained Armenian technicians gave an on‑site demonstration: “The automated acquisition system responds to seismic signals within seconds; intelligent analysis modules automatically generate reports. We can even forecast seismic trends with data‑driven models, and these technologies have multiplied our monitoring efficiency.” The seismic monitoring system bears strategic significance for enhancing seismic safety and unlocking scientific‑research potential in the Republic of Armenia.

During the tour, the President of the Republic of Armenia commented: “This ‘smart brain’ enables us to respond to earthquakes with greater composure. We appreciate the innovative technologies brought by the Chinese side.” Administrator Wang Kun pointed out that the Armenia project serves as a benchmark case for overseas seismic‑monitoring cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, delivering replicable experience for deepening bilateral collaboration.
III. A “Chinese Calling‑Card” for Global Deployment: From Domestic Benchmark to International Trust
Geolight Technology has long committed itself to innovation and breakthroughs in seismic‑observation technologies. Its portfolio of self‑developed seismic‑monitoring instruments — broadband, high‑dynamic‑range, high‑resolution seismometers, data acquisition units and advanced data‑processing software — have reached internationally‑advanced levels. These instruments are widely deployed across provincial and municipal seismic networks nationwide, as well as large‑scale projects such as the Three Gorges Reservoir and Wujiang River Basin hydropower projects. Moreover, the products have been exported to more than 40 countries and regions worldwide, earning solid reputation within the global seismological community.

Looking ahead, Geolight Technology will continue leveraging its technical expertise and professional strengths in seismic monitoring, proactively engaging in more Belt‑and‑Road‑related projects, and contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to global seismic‑observation undertakings and disaster‑risk reduction worldwide.
